Up close and personal
I have a lot of great photos after almost 30 years together. This portrait was a test in layering of graphite and charcoal to bring out texture and detail. I was especially happy with the way his mustache and beard turned out. Charcoal is so deep that the darkest dark recedes without effort – even the shadows in the zipper disappear.
My next portrait will be of him carrying the family pool toys and towels home after a hot afternoon in the water. It’s a classic that every dad can relate to.
Original is 6″ x 10″.
